We’ve made quite a bit of progress in this last week regarding the composting toilet for BaanRimNaam. First, the toilet itself is taking shape: The bathroom has been tiled, and is mostly ready for the toilet also: But most interesting, I think, is the construction of the chamber under the house to keep the composting…
BaanLoiNaam update: Final pontoon is completed!
Over the past few days, the welders were pressure testing the last pontoon. Having held up pressure nicely since Monday, they floated it today. That makes 5 out of 5 required pontoons for BaanLoiNaam. Now we are ready to begin building the structure on top of the pontoons. Yay!
Worker’s toolshed and workshop area is now completed
The worker’s toolshed and workshop area is now completely finished. Here is a little tour… The last piece to be finished in the past few days is the section of walkway connecting the toolshed to the main walkway around the pond: This leads to the toolshed itself where they added a grooved ramp for pushing…
Composting toilet progress
We’ve made some progress on the composting toilet on BaanRimNaam. This is the wooden frame: While many of the composting toilet designs you find on the internet are basically just boxes, you’ll notice that ours tapers inwards at the bottom. This is to allow you to put your feet closer together and further back so…
Ferry boat update
It took a little longer than I expected to get the coupling between the motors and propeller shafts for the ferry boat. The first few machine shops we spoke to didn’t seem interested in the order. But we found one on our side of the river but almost an hour away (in Bang Bon). So…
Second pontoon launched
I was out of town, but I received these photos of the launch of the second pontoon: So we now have two of 5 pontoons completed and floating.
Lots of Photos: Sony NEX5
When it comes to pictures for this blog, I mostly just snap off of my mobile phone camera and post. But often times, it just doesn’t capture the feeling of what I am looking at. So I borrowed an old Sony NEX5 from work that we used to use for experiments a number of years…
Rain deluge
After a few days of leaving the pond overflow pipe open to drain the nearly daily falling rains, the rains tapered off. And since the pond water level looked like it could go up another 50cm without causing any problems around the land, this afternoon I decided to close it to see how quickly it…
Pond is full and rising
I swung by the land on Wednesday after heavy rainfall for two days to see the pond “full” for the first time. I define a full pond by the water level reaching the overflow pipe. I had the overflow valve closed during the rains, so the water level is now up near the top of the…
First BaanLoiNaam pontoon now deployed
Earlier in the week, we were able to lower the first BaanLoiNaam pontoon into the pond and float it. It was a bit of a process, but worked out pretty well. First, we had to make sure that we will be able to mount the pontoon onto the frame after it is all in the…
