Pink water lilies

My coworker gave us these water lilies from her home town a few months ago. We didn’t think it would survive, but it thrived. This week it finally flowered.

A Kingfisher on the balcony

This picture was taken by Than when he was talking with the workmen at BaanLoiNaam. It appears to be a kingfisher sitting on our balcony. It is a rather cute looking bird, so I thought I would share.

Nice sunset

I swung by to check out the mounting of the solar panel rails on BaanLoiNaam on Friday evening and took this picture of the house silhouetted against a striking sunset.

Random pictures of our cats

We lost one of our cats over the past month to a slow and grueling cancer. Thai veterinarians don’t appear to do euthanasia for terminally ill pets. (At least none of the 5-10 in our area that we contacted would.) Something about losing a pet, particularly when it is slowly and painfully, makes one take…

Praew pointed out a little “makok” tree (ambarella?). I hadn’t noticed it before although she planted it…

Passion fruit and sesbania flower and sorghum

We are starting to eat more and more different kinds of food from our land these days. We aren’t exactly gardening yet. Instead, we are planting various kinds of plants that seem to be quite happy growing with little or no work on our part. (Apparently the tropical climate and soil around here isn’t exactly…

Baan Lae Suan fair

Praew spent Saturday at the “Baan Lae Suan” fair (literally “Home and Garden” fair), where she picked up a number of cute miscellany that make BaanMae look a little more like a home. It might also give you an idea of our sense of style… I really like this guy. Look carefully and you’ll see…

Funky clouds

Last Thursday, I saw an interesting cloud pattern on my way back from work. It looked like normal clouds on the lower left side, but with higher altitude flat clouds encircling them. Blue sky peaked through in a thin crescent between them.
