I have recently been working on designing a peer-to-peer RS485 network protocol with collision avoidance (and maybe even collision detection) for the walkway lights on the land. (Link to last two posts: here and here.) As mentioned in my last post, even though each device is doing its best to detect if another device is…
Building a simple but efficient peer-to-peer RS485 network protocol
In my last post, I mentioned that I am working on a peer-to-peer network protocol for the RS485 network that I am using to communicate between my “smart walkway lights”. In today’s post, I will continue with a general outline of the approach I plan to take. This is all very nerdy, so if you…
Walkway lights, network protocols, masters, and slaves
It has been a bit quieter than usual on this blog recently. It isn’t that we haven’t been up to much. Quite the contrary, it has been very busy. But much of the business (busy-ness) has been either at work. And the land work has mostly just been putting finishing touches on projects that have…
One staircase down into pond was completed
It has been raining a lot this week which slowed down some of the outdoor work (like building the new stairs to conveniently descend into the pond). Nonetheless, we were able to finish one of the two stairs. Here are two pictures:
Lightning rods are up on BaanRimNaam
After putting up the lightning rods at BaanMae, we had the workers put them up on BaanRimNaam. They used a slightly different design for the welding, but if anything I think it looks even nicer: The 10sq mm electric wire has been run between the two lightning rods just under the roof and then down…
An airplane that can take off in a driveway?
I’ve been interested in airplanes since I was a young kid. Maybe because my father was an aerospace engineer. So I read about Burt Rutan and his VariEze and Long-EZ kit plane canard designs and dreamt that some day I would grow up and build one. But life took me more in the direction of…
We’re open… but we’re closed
Praew and I spent a few days in Ratchaburi on a work trip of hers. On the way back we stopped for lunch at “Coro field cafe” in Suan Peung District, Ratchaburi. It is part of a little farm that specializes in enclosed greenhouses where they grow Japanese cherry tomatoes and melons that are difficult…
La Toscana: Tuscany in Thailand
Praew and I took a brief trip to Ratchaburi for her work over the past few days. While we were there, she found us a rather nice resort called “La Toscana”. It was Italian villa themed, and while we were a bit worried about it being quite tacky, it was very tastefully done. All-in-all, Praew…
A staircase down into the pond
I’ve been wanting a way to climb down into the pond for some time now. After going swimming in the pond a few times (mostly for the purpose of doing maintenance, but it is still refreshing on a hot summer day), it is quite clear that climbing up and down the slope is quite difficult…
East half of the walkway finished
Last week, we finished the east half of the walkway around the pond. It is going to be a really nice jogging path. This last picture is the section that will connect to BaanRimNaam once we finish the house.
