Walls going up on BaanRimNaam

I’m fascinated again by how quickly the outside structure of a house goes up during construction. The workers are now putting up the wooden walls on BaanRimNaam. Every day we swing by to check on things and the house takes shape a little more. Here is a view from the inside: We are using a…

More progress on the driveway

We’ve been laying a lot of cement recently, and yesterday we laid down a bit more. Here are some pictures of the driveway almost completely done: Pretty soon I will be able to use it to park the car!

BaanSuanRimNaam update: The window frames are going up

After finishing the flooring (indoors and outdoors) of BaanSuanRimNaam, and then spending about a week on building the window frames, the workers have moved on to installing the window frames. Here is a view of the interior as they are working. Maybe it gives you just a hint of what the house might feel like…

Building the driveway at long last

We had designed the driveway many months ago but decided to wait until the paying area and walkways around the house were done first. Today, we are finally getting to the driveway: The gate on the far right is our temporary construction entrance. But the area between the big fat brown piling the temporary gate…

Laying cement for parking area

Today, the workers began laying the cement for the parking area. It will be really nice to have a place to park away from the rain and the mud after it is completed. It was interesting to watch them work, though:

Laying down cement for walkways around the house

We began laying down the cement for the walkways around the first house. This house is meant to be for my mother in law, and we’ve been planning for a long time to construct a walkway that can be used to circle the house with a walker for exercise, or even in a wheelchair just…

Metal trees walkway roof completed

We have now fully completed our “metal trees” walkway. Here are two pictures: The first one is at dusk and the second in full noon-time sunlight. The polycarbonate roofing is a bit more green than I imagined it. I’m kinda hoping that it gets a bit dirtier in the next few months and comes out…

Mounting for solar panels on roof nearly complete

Since we sourced the 6 new solar panels recently, we had to build the structure for mounting it on the roof. In the process, we ended up realizing that the shallow slope of the back balcony roof was even more shallow than it was supposed to be due to what was probably a slight error…

Circuit breaker box

It seems like it has taken a very long time to get the circuit breaker box wired up. Without much experience at this, every step is a decision followed by a need to buy something new followed by another decision. But after several weeks, we’ve gotten the main circuit breaker box in the first house…

BaanRimNaam update: fiber cement board flooring

Now that the house frame and roofing is in place, the fiber cement board flooring is going in. As with the first house, the fiber cement board helps to create a “termite barrier” between the cement footings on the ground below and the wood that makes up the house up above. I’m sure it isn’t…
