I’m fascinated again by how quickly the outside structure of a house goes up during construction. The workers are now putting up the wooden walls on BaanRimNaam. Every day we swing by to check on things and the house takes shape a little more.
Here is a view from the inside:
We are using a harder darker wood for the walls of this house compared to BaanMae. It is a hardwood called ไม้เต็ง (“mai tdeng”) in Thai. I’m not sure what it is called in English but in terms of construction options it is relatively inexpensive and easy to source.
The interesting part is that it comes quite pale about as light as the pine wood on BaanMae.
But as the wood dries out it darkens.
In the above picture, both the lighter planks on the wall and the darker wood of the window frames and vertical wall studs are actually the same kind of wood. As it dries out it will all be the same (darker) color.
I’m really curious what it will be like.
