I’m still getting caught up on the posts I didn’t get to over the New Year’s weekend. I mentioned in my last post that we moved into BaanRimNaam, but I forgot to mention that we got the lights up and running.

We haven’t yet mounted any solar panels onto the roof, but when we ran the AC power line from the street, I laid down some fat 2-conductor NYY cable to run DC power from BaanMae. The idea is that the electrical loads on these two houses may be quite different based on how they are occupied, so even if they both have equal solar power, it may make sense that they be able to “steal” electricity from each other’s DC system. Additionally, the walkway lights around the land are all run off of the solar DC power system, so it is uncertain which house will “have more electricity to spare”. So it made some sense to connect them via a big cable.

It didn’t occur to me at the time, that I might use this cable to delay adding solar panels to BaanRimNaam. Since the DC system in BaanRimNaam is only used for lights at this point, and the smart LED lights we’ve built use very little electricity, for the time being there really isn’t any need to mount panels up on the roof.
