A 12VDC electric fan

In addition to the solar panels and other items received from Amorn Solar today, I also decided to pick up a cheap 12VDC floor fan (pictured above). We will be using 24V for our DC lines, so if we use something like this later, we will probably have to step it down to 12V, but…

A new order of solar panels received today

Today, we received our newest order of solar panels from Amorn Solar. In the top of frame, you can see 6x 300W panels. Each is pretty big, measuring about 2m by 1m. Together, they should really have plenty of power to run the entire house. Down below, in the small white box on the left…

Very high power warm white LED

We’ve been exploring different options for DC 24V lighting in the house using solar panels to charge a set of 4x 6V lead acid golf cart batteries. Our previous LED light tests worked but the light was a cool white which I’ve never liked for home lighting. Also, the previous test used 0.5W LEDs which…

Roof finished on BaanRimNaam

Before heading back home for the New Year’s holiday, our workers finished the roof on BaanRimNaam. Next comes the walls.

A new refrigerator

We bought a new refrigerator for the new land on Wednesday. Today we decided to do a full week’s shopping on the way to the land, and plugged in the fridge for the first time. The fridge is still in a temporary location, but we have a place to keep food and drinks cold. Yay!

Solar powered circulation pump update

On December 23, I was quite happy that the new prototype pump controller circuit didn’t blow out in the 30 seconds or so that it took to burn out before I worked out a solution to the voltage spike issue. From that point, I left the pump running 24 hours a day until today, and…

Parking area roof installation

In addition to beginning the roof on BaanRimNaam today, we also started putting up the roof on the parking area. We went with a semi-transparent polycarbonate sheeting. Here are a few pictures:

BaanRimNaam: Putting up the roof tiles

Today we started putting up the roof tiles on BaanRimNaam. We chose a red tile: The tiles are made from fiber cement, but we were careful to get Chang brand (“elephant” brand) because they have advertised for a long time as not using asbestos in their products. Here was how it looked before lunch: By…

First real solar powered pump test

Today I ran the solar powered pump the entire day for the first time. I am very pleased with the results. Ever since I solved the voltage spike issues we’ve been having with all of our power electronics circuits over the years, I’ve been very excited to actually try out the new pump controller circuit…

Pond water level dropping

The rainy season has passed and we are now into the dry season. It rained only once that I am aware of in the last few weeks and that was a very light rain. I have been monitoring the level of the water every week or two and it went up to about 48cm below…
