Kitchen building walls are done

The kitchen building has been mostly on hold while we finish up a number of things on the floating house (BaanLoiNaam). But we did manage to finish all of the walls on it. Next we need to schedule the workers to install the doors and windows. After the Songkran holidays, though.

BaanLoiNaam balcony has cool “secret” storage areas

The odd balcony storage areas in BaanLoiNaam have been completed. On the near side is where the bed can slide out from inside the house when not in use. But we added a hinged door with a lift support strut to keep it open when we need to clean out this area. (Our bed is…

BaanLoiNaam bathroom update: fresh water testing

So we installed a water tank under the roof of BaanLoiNaam a while back, and recently got the sink and shower heads connected up so we decided to test if the water pressure is enough. The sink worked fine… But the shower head was a little on the low pressure side It is probably usable…

Building the bed storage compartment under the balcony of BaanLoiNaam

Being relatively minimalist in our leanings, Praew and I have been enjoying the idea of downsizing our home to a tiny 12 sq meter (130 sq ft) floating house. As mentioned before, we are cheating more than a little bit by moving much of our living space outside. The above is only the inside area…

Mounting the solar panels on BaanLoiNaam

We mounted the solar panels on the roof of BaanLoiNaam a week or two ago: If anything, I think it makes the tiny floating house look kinda cool. Here are some wider shots: (You’ll notice we removed the “green wall” in the bathroom in order to paint the floor.)

Adding a water tank to BaanLoiNaam

Rather than install a water pump to create enough water pressure for sinks, showers, etc., in BaanLoiNaam, we have been exploring using a water tank and letting gravity do the work for us. It will still need a pump to pump the water up to the tank, but that pump can be much smaller and…

BaanLoiNaam: adding a bathroom sink

We mounted up the bathroom sink in BaanLoiNaam. We still don’t have any water connections yet, but I just wanted to see what it would look like with the cattails around it: Things are still a bit dirty from planting the cattails, but I really like the way the sink looks so far. The other…

BaanRimNaam kitchen completed

We’ve finished the outdoor kitchen at BaanRimNaam and been using it for a week or two now. It has a sink and counter, UV and carbon water filter under the sink, and an induction stove and toaster oven to do the occasional cooking.

Window frames going up in the kitchen

The kitchen is now the fourth structure we have built using the same style of steel structure, wooden walls, fiber cement floor, and acrylic windows. It also might be the last. 🙂 The process is getting almost routine now. Once the steel structure is up, next is the window frames, and then the walls. Here…

Building the shower floor in the floating house

We designed a simple wooden structure to form the floor of the shower in BaanLoiNaam and the workers finished building it last week. I’m pretty surprised how nice the wood came out. The concept of this shower is a little unusual. Being a floating house that is designed to be mobile, there are no sewage…
