Since we built the experimental gable window, there have been a number of holidays and other projects going on, so we didn’t get the chance to install the pulleys and test out the opening and closing process. But we tested it for the first time today and it works quite well.
From the inside, you can see the sling wire and pulley coming down (center of the window):

I really like the off-axis hinged opening. And the acrylic is quite light making it really easy to open and tie off. The sling wire goes through the pulleys and then comes down to about 2m off the ground. This allows us to attach a rope at the bottom that is easy to tie off to hold it open or closed.
In case you are wondering, the paper over the acrylic is just there until the construction is complete and then we will take it off.
