I delayed signing up for the permanent electrical hookup for quite a while. It wasn’t too urgent because we already have the temporary construction electricity, but they charge about twice as much for it.
We finally got around to signing up for the permanent electrical connection and the utility company sent an inspector by yesterday. He approved all of our wiring inside the house and out, but there was a change we needed to make to the point where we provide them with the wire to connect to the meter.
So, we dug a short trench, adjusted some locations and dropped in a new cement pole. Then we had to attach the two “out to the street” electrical conduit pipes to that pole:
Basically, we run our electricity and one and telephone in the other.
Here is what it looked like after we finished:
The caps at the top of the pipe are called “hua ngoo how” in Thai, which means “cobra head”. I’ve just learned that they are called “service entrance caps” in English. I like the Thai word better.
So we called them to let them know we made the adjustments they asked for and hopefully they will come back to finalize the inspection in a day or two. Then we should be good for them to finally hook us up.
Woohoo!
