DC solar powered water pump hooked up

Today, we hooked up the DC water pump. The glue on the PVC pipes wasn’t dry yet when I was there, so we didn’t get to fully test it out. But the idea is that the water main flows into the 900L water tank with a float valve to stop it when it is full….

Outdoor kitchen finished

The outdoor kitchen for BaanMae was finished today. You can see the finished trellis that was only partially done last time I posted a kitchen update. Also, the sink and faucets are installed. (“Taps” for you Brits. 😉 Under the sink, we installed a UV and carbon water filter. It is a standard 3 step…

Sling wire on the front balcony rail

The workers finished installing the sling wire on the front balcony of BaanMae in the last few days: This was always the plan, but we told them to wait until they had nothing else more urgent. And thus it lingered for several months. But now it is installed. Mostly it is a consequence of our…

Solar power box update

More progress on wiring up the DC solar power box: Last time I left off having mounted everything in the box and mounting the box on the side of the house. Today, we have the internal wiring done. Tomorrow, I’m hoping to have the solar panels and batteries connected up, and then BaanMae will officially…

DC solar power box mounted

We had a number of delays in setting up the main solar for BaanMae. At first we were going to mount everything inside the house and use DC automotive fuses for protection. But we began to realize that many of the devices we wanted to power were outside, such as the water pumps and walkway…

Another outdoor kitchen update

Here is a quick photo of the outdoor kitchen progress today. The tiles that make up the counter top are installed and fit together really nicely. You can also see the open style storage shelf underneath the counter. They are working on installing a trellis to block the light of the setting sun.

Outdoor kitchen install going in quickly

The kitchen install is going well. The last time I posted was “day one”. Here is day two: You can see the sink in place on the right. To the left of the sink is the granite tile that we are planning to use for the surface. (It kinda blends in with the fiber cement…

Outdoor kitchen on BaanMae

We’ve begun construction of the counter tops for the outdoor kitchen in BaanMae: In traditional Thai houses, the kitchen is normally outside. If you think about this for a bit, there are some clear advantages to it. Not the least of these is that the cooking smells stay outside. (Do you remember the Thai restaurant…

Permanent electricity hookup installed today

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=208103 Today, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority came by and hooked up our permanent electrical supply. Up until now we’ve been using the temporary hookup people use for construction. (Which costs more than twice as much as the normal rate.) But the electrical inspector came by last week and now we are “on the electrical grid”. That’s…

Hooking the air pump up to the aerobic treatment system

We went with an aerobic treatment system (ATS) rather than a septic tank for our sewage system because it is supposed to result in cleaner effluent and we wanted to use the treated (and post sand filtered) effluent on the land for watering (non-edible) plants, etc. (You can see all of the posts about the…
