The cistern in front of Ban Mae has a steel lid 1.2 x 1.2 m approx. weight is about 10 kg. If we want to know water level in the cistern, we need to lift it every time. It would be better to have a water level monitor we could easily see every time we walk by. The goal of water level monitor is:
– can see the water level while the lid is closed
– easy to open the lid if needed
– do not interfere up while walking past

The concept of this unit is a simple floating gauge with a easily visible mark on the top for monitoring. To avoid interfering with walking past, we move the reference down under the lid by weld the steel pipe under the lid. When the water level rises to about half of the overflow pipe height, the top of the gauge will become visible.

But we didn’t want it to be hard to lift the lid up with this unit welded on. So we just cut a hole on the lid and put this unit resting on the top and easily removable.

A 1.5 L bottle was used as the float, connected with 1″ joint and pipe. We added a cap on top and wrapped it with red tape for visibility.
We use 2″ steel pipe  and weld the slope on the bottom to block the cap from falling down.
The cap will show when the water up to reference level (half of the overflow pipe height).
Everything installed in place
When fully overflowing, the pipe sticks up about 20cm
