The floating house is quite small, so we are thinking up all kinds of ways to reconfigure the space to keep it open and clean when we don’t need furniture cluttering things up, but still have the convenience of that furniture when we need it.

So here is a nifty folding counter top in the kitchen of BaanLoiNaam (floating house) that does exactly that:

If you look carefully at the counters on the left side above, you will see a narrower section under the window.

This can be used to put things aside during cooking, particularly when it comes time to serve dishes since the window slides open and someone inside can grab things off of this counter and move it to a table inside.

But why have a counter top here when we aren’t using this kitchen? We decided we wanted the option of folding this counter out of the way, so we worked with the wood worker on the following design underneath:

If you lift the top up, the support can fold down:

And then the top can fold down:

Voila! When not in use, the space can be reclaimed.
