Praew’s standalone dream kitchen has been on hold after doing the pilings, floor and roof for a month or two now while the workers were finishing the walls, windows and doors of BaanLoiNaam.

But now that BaanLoiNaam is nearing completion, we ordered the wood and now we are shifting a few workers over to begin working on the walls, windows and doors of the kitchen building.

Here is the pile of wood we ordered underneath the kitchen roof:

The walls, doors and windows take a bit longer than other parts of the construction because of all the cutting, sanding, filling and other processing that wood requires. Wood is more time consuming than using other building materials like steel, fiber cement board, and brick, but it is lighter weight than most other wall materials, and has an aesthetic we really like.

The current estimate is that we’ll be done with this step in under a month, but we just lost a worker who had to go back to his home town to take care of some personal business, so we’ll have to see how much that might slow things down.
