Today, on the way back from some business in town, Praew and I stopped off at a cute little cafe for coffee and dessert. If you are familiar with this area, you will be aware of how unlikely a location this is for a shop like this.

The place is named “Three Bears Patisserie and Cafe” and it appears to be operated by “Olive Oyl Baking Studio”.

I don’t know what it is exactly about a coffee shop that you can tell in the first few seconds whether they just bought some token pre-made cakes to offer with their coffee, or they are serious about their pastries. But it was pretty obvious that this place was serious about their desserts:

If you look in that picture, you’ll see the usual chocolate cake, banana chocolate chip muffin, brownie, and banoffee. But you’ll also see some less common coffee shop treats like tiramisu, pana cotta, fresh young coconut cake, carrot cake and red velvet cupcake. And then you have the more “signature confections” their chocolate crispy, macadamia caramel cheesecake and chocolate espresso flourless cake.

For a dessert lover like myself, it was like walking into heaven. 🙂

This shop is in an area that was only recently mostly tropical orchards and is now mostly rather dilapidated shopfronts and warehouses. If you’re looking for the shop, you’ll think that you must have made a wrong turn, or my directions were wrong. Then when you finally see the shop, it is like someone magically transplanted a coffee shop from the trendiest areas of Bangkok into this unlikely community.

There are only about 3 tables, but the decor is both very inviting and comfortable.

We ordered the chocolate crispy and the carrot cake.

I thought the chocolate crispy was amazingly good (although while Praew liked it too, she wasn’t as amazed as I was…). The carrot cake was so cute with little bunny ears on top made from some kind of butterscotch white chocolate that we had to try it. And while it was a good carrot cake, it was a little more dry and dense than my favorite kinds of carrot cake.

The drinks also looked quite interesting. Praew enjoyed their “coffee on the rocks” which comes as a carafe of milk, a glass of ice cubes made from coffee and a small dish of syrup on a wooden tray. (This picture is after pouring the milk over the ice cubes…)

They also had a number of other interesting looking drinks like smoothies that use only real fruit, mixed sodas and other more common drinks (normal coffees, green tea, cocoa, etc). I’ll try out some smoothies next time…

In case you want to swing by, I highly recommend you turn on your Google navigation. Here is the location:
