We built a short fence around BaanMae for keeping our actual pet dogs (the ones from our current house) in at night. We don’t normally let them in the house at night, and it would be nice to keep them separate from the pack that took over our land during construction until we are sure how they get along.

So I’ve been considering different locks. The problem is that most fence locks at nearby hardware stores are way too heavy duty for this light duty fence. Additionally, since the gates are mostly double sided gates, if we went with the normal bolt latch locks we would also need a second one to lock downwards to the cement walkway. This seemed like overkill.

So, as usual, I came up with my own design that works pretty well with just the leftovers from building the fence. Here is what it looks like:
(The grey color is just the anti-rust paint. We still have to paint it with the outer green paint.)

In the above configuration it is locked.

If I open it up, it lifts like this:

And comes to rest on its back for an unlocked configuration:

Not only does this install easier and use only leftover materials, it should also be easier for my elderly mother-in-law to open and close.
