Yesterday, Praew and I had our weekly Wednesday lunch date at Mama Dolores “Old Time Pizzeria”. It is on Yen Akat Rd. across the street from Le Petit Zinc, which is a nice little French Cafe that Praew and I have been to a few times.

We ate in an outdoor seating area that had a nice atmosphere

The tables on the left have chairs while the tables on the right have the triangular reclining pillows that you see around in Thailand sometimes.

I don’t know if it changed management over the years. Based on the sign out front (“Mama Dolores Old Time Pizzeria”), I expected a typical Italian restaurant (of which there are many good ones around), but the moment I opened the menu it was clearly a Mediterranean restaurant with Greek, Lebanese, Turkish and Italian Food. There are only a few good Mediterranean restaurants around and this one clearly had a number of distinctive dishes that looked like they were worth trying.

We ordered a “Balkan Shakshuka”

which apparently was a spicy tomato sauce with eggplant and feta cheese which they drop in egg. Praew said she coincidentally watched some YouTube videos recently about shakshuka which said it is usually a breakfast item. The shakshuka wrapped into the pita witht the green sauce on top was really really good.

We also ordered “Moroccan Fish”

This was a more typical dish, but still quite tasty. It was fish in a mild tomato broth on a bed of stewed potato, garlic, and other vegetables topped with a large slice of bread.

Finally, we ordered “Dolores Pita Bread” which was a pita with pita topped with herbs and sesame.

They also had a good selection of drinks. I ordered a mixed fruit juice beetroot and apple, and Praew ordered an apple, carrot, and ginger:

In addition to these, we ordered the “Potato Pancake topped with Guacamole”, but they didn’t have any avocado today, so we will have to wait for another time to try it. They also had a selection of more typical hummus, tzaziki, dolma, falafel, babaganoush, etc. Praew thought we might try the “falafel set” to see how they compare on the basic Mediterranean fare to the other such restaurants around. This one would be more convenient, and I have high hopes based on what we ate that the flavor will match our tastes.

Also on the list are things like steaks, grilled fish, kebab, and a good looking burger.

Unfortunately, their coffee machine was broken, but we took this as an opportunity to try out another little cafe’ called “The Corner” which was only about 2-3 minutes away from Mama Dolores:

Besides Praew’s coffee, we ordered a mixed berry milkshake, a creme brulee and a chocolate tart. All of which were very delicious. But sorry, we ate it all before taking any pictures.
