I’ve been very happy with my Nexus 5 phone over the past few years, but in the last few weeks, the power button has started getting stuck causing it to go into an infinite boot loop (as if the button was being held down all the time). Some postings on the web have suggested to whack the phone against a table on the button side, and after about 10 or 20 big whacks it did indeed boot again. But this has happened several more times, and all of that whacking can’t be good for the phone…
So I figured it was time for a new one. Since I have enjoyed my Nexus 5 running CyanogenMod (now on CM13 which is derived from Android 6) I decided to go with the updated Nexus 5X as my next phone.
They don’t sell in Thailand, but an order on eBay two days ago from Singapore and FedEx brought it to my door today. Here is a quick snap of it booting for the first time:

One of the cool things I read about is its new USB-C connector. You don’t have to worry about plugging it in backwards… it goes in both ways. On top of that, it can get about 4 hours of run time off of 10 minutes of charging.

Unfortunately, the charge cable it comes with is USB-C to USB-C, meaning I can’t plug it into my computer to do the voodoo you need to do to flash CyanogenMod. (At least the way I always do it.)

So I am stuck with it as-is until I can go out and find a USB-A to USB-C cable.

Oh well, no-one ever said progress was easy. 😉
