This is Namtan, the new dog:

She is one of the dogs in the pack that was hanging out around our construction site. One day she had a slash in her foot so we took her into the vet. (She was terrified.) They needed her foot to be kept dry and she needed to be given antibiotics for about 2 weeks, so we ended up bringing her home.

She is the most fearful and timid dog I’ve ever encountered. She wouldn’t eat for 4 or 5 days after I brought her home. (I ended up using wet food and a syringe to keep her minimally fed so she wouldn’t starve.) Eventually, her appetite returned and she slowly warmed up to the rest of our dogs. Now she is one of the pack!

The odd part is that while she is excited to see me when I come home, she still crouch walks up to me like she is fearful of me. But she wags her tail and loves attention. When she walks close to the ground like that and looks up at me, she really looks like Smeagol from the Lord of the Rings movies.  I think this is enhanced by the black eye coloring around her eyes and her nervous manner.

I think I will give her the nickname of “Smeagol”. 😉
