Here’s the process I’m working on to fix the problems with the pond level:

  1. Dig some clay soil up to build a temporary water wall.
  2. Pump the rain water out of the part we are fixing the level problem and behind the temporary water wall. (This step is because I would like to fill up the pond with “clean” rainwater, and I don’t want to lose the water I’ve gotten from the recent rains.)
  3. Hire an excavator to dig down to the correct level.
  4. Figure out whether I want to keep the water wall for the final pond or not. (We need a wall to keep the plants in the “green zone” and away from the “swimming zone”.)

Things went very quickly today, and we are mostly done with step 3. Here are some pictures from this morning:

The lower picture shows the temporary water wall and you can see the gasoline water pump running on the far side of the wall. The excavator is starting the levelling work in the left background of the upper picture. (Water wall in the distance.)

So far, so good.
