We’ve been composting the mulch that comes out of the leaf shredder in a DIY compost tumbler we made: The compost tumbler is based on this design. I didn’t wait for the stuff to fully break down because we wanted to experiment with it, and there is a lot more shredded leaves to compost. (It…
Land Development Update
We are making good progress on the structure of the first house. Here are some pictures:
3D Printing With Nylon
Experimenting with nylon as a print material. I’m having good luck with 25mm/sec print speed, 240deg extruder temperature, 80deg bed temperature, 20mm brim, and printing on a glass bed with a glue stick layer.
SlingBot Update: Prototype up on the test cable
Today, we assembled the prototype SlingBot with motor and wheels. Don’t mind the bright red wheel, we are just trying to use up some free PLA that came with a printer on some of these prototype prints. It isn’t some new design sense I have. This new design seems to sit well on the sling…
Solar Power Test
We’ve been experimenting with solar power for a few years measuring the differences between cloudy days and sunny days and comparing how much energy we actually get from a solar panel per day vs its rated maximum power. Manufacturers have an incentive to overestimate these numbers, so real world testing is always best. As it…
Wood Chipper and Leaf Shredder
Yesterday, Praew and I drove to the other side of Bangkok to check out a business that sells wood chippers (among other things). The place was quite interesting. It looked like a 3 storey tall family owned warehouse of equipment. The lift (elevator) was large, industrial, steel, very slow, had that old fashioned kind of…
SlingBot Update: Basic parts printed
Ran prints all day yesterday and overnight, too. 3D printing is now done for the main pieces of the SlingBot prototype. In the picture, you can see two wheel struts and the main center motor and wheel mount piece. Each of the 3 pieces took 3-7 hours to print. (Yes, 3D printing on my machine…
Surveying plans for a DIY excavator
I’ve done a fair amount of looking around at what is out there for CAD plans for a DIY excavator. I’m quite interested in the CADDiggers from CADPlans. Of course, I started out downloading a set of free CAD plans for a backhoe, just to see what they are like. But the free plans look…
New Project: Land Development
It has actually been a little more than a year since we bought a 4 rai piece of land just outside Bangkok, Thailand. (4 rai = about 1.6 acres) But since I just started this blog, I’m picking up this project in the middle. How to begin? Let me describe the scenario… Praew and I…
New Project: SlingBot
I just started a new robot project. The goal is to build a 3D printed robot that can mount an IP camera, has pan and tilt functionality, and a drive motor that drives the robot along a sling cable. It will probably be battery powered with an inductive charging connection. Ideally, I can control it…
