According to some news reports, this is the worst drought in Thailand in the last 20 years or so. I’ve heard that the rainy season that normally starts around May will likely be delayed until August.

This is good for construction since rain just makes everything more difficult. But it isn’t so good for the pond water level. It never got up to full height, and it is now dropping.

I took this picture on Feb 22 to monitor the water level:

If you zoom in, you can see that the water level is just about at the bottom of the second from the top most level of bricks.

On Mar 9, I took this picture:

It is about 1.3 bricks lower, which comes out to about 15cm. This drop occurred in exactly 16 days, which is pretty close to about 1cm per day drop.

If there is really no rain between now and August, we could expect to see another 1 meter drop in the water level. That is quite a bit.

So I’m hoping that “delayed rainy season” doesn’t actually mean “no rain”, but just “less rain”. Even just more humidity and no rain would slow down the rate of evaporation.
